Why?

Why aren't more people concerned with animal rights? Humans and animals are very similar. If we weren't similar, we wouldn't be testing on them for the reasons that we do. Animal rights should be a bigger concern, but sadly I don't see many youth stepping up for his issue. If you are youth, and are greatly concerned with animal cruelty and fighting for animal rights, please leave a comment.

Greyhound Racing

Greyhound Racing, I find, is a sport of animal cruelty. It has come to my attention how awful these animals have been treated. Like horse racing, it is exhilerating to watch these animals zoom across the tracks at a ridiculous speed... but the sport is very inhumane. Greyhounds are being massively bred for a desire to attain the fastest Greys for the tracks. Sadly, most of these dogs do not cut it and are euthanized. In the U.S. alone, 7,500 to 20,000 greyhounds are euthanized each year just because they aren't fast enough, or their racing days are coming to an end. Most Greyhounds do not get to live a full life, and many suffer with disgusting living conditions until their dying day.

Even though the sport may appear to be very exciting, don't fall for the pretense. Animals aren't here for our monetary gain or our sick entertainment. Greyhounds deserve a loving life just as much as the next dog. More attention should be given to the horrible practice of Greyhound racing and awarness should be spread to help end it.

Pet Adoption

Homeless cats and dogs are found in every country, every city. Without a home, these animals suffer because of the lack of a constant supply of food, water, and shelter. But there is hope for them. Animal shelters across the globe take in millions of animals each year. They comfort them and provide their needs, and services are offered to their forever homes after they have been adopted.

Even though animal shelters do all they can to find homes for the homeless, they can't save everybody. Overcrowding is only one of the many problems they face. Shelters can only provide so much room before the animals begin fighting and diseases start to spread. When diseases start to spread, and room is far too limited, animals are euthanized. It is mostly the older or more aggressive that are euthanized, but illness is another cause. Many older, loving pets are killed because of the lack of space in the shelters.

So many more animals would be saved if professional breeders would chill out and more people would adopt from their local shelter or rescue group. There are breed-specific rescue groups for those looking for a particular breed. The demand for puppies and kittens are high, and adolecent pets are usually left behind. Please adopt rather than buying from petstores and professional breeders. The lives of innocent and affectionate pets are counting on you.

Animal Support

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

My mom and I were driving back from Petsmart's Halloween contest last night with my Corgi Bella dressed up in a Fireman costume. I told her of my plans to start making my own dog toys at home with her help and expretise in arts & crafts. Buying dog toys gets so expensive after a while. They rip them a part so easily, I'm constantly tripping over dismantled body parts of what used to be a teddy bear and replacing torn squeakers. I'd be cheaper just to make my own toys. That's when a idea struck me. I could not only make dog toys for my own dogs, but also for others. I could set up a booth outside of petstores and other places and sell my toys for other dogs and use the money I make to donate to various animal services and organizations in need.

A friend of my mom's has a little business in her garage, and she sells a variety of animal food and supplies. She'd certainly be willing to let me set up my own table in her shop. I think I have a great idea going, I just need the time and supplies to kick it off. It's also great that I have a mom who already has most of the supplies I need on-hand. :)
